High-stakes action at the highest levels doesn’t seem to offer enough of a thrill or action for some players it seems, with Doug Polk and Dan Smith cross-booking their action to add a little extra spice to their Aria high-roller Christmas tournaments.
Aria $25k High Roller (and crossbook w/ @DanSmithHolla) is live.

Cross-booking, for those who don’t know the phrase, is a type of bet where participants agree to pay each other the amount that the other wins in a tournament –so it was a brave move from Polk, with Smith finding the regular big events at the Aria a happy-hunting ground, scooping over $1.2million in cashes there compared to Polk’s relatively meagre $86k.
Up to 380k in the Aria 25k, Dan Smith is out. Can we bring some devastation? https://t.co/0eXHV6xiA2

As famous nowadays in the poker community for his Twitch TV and YouTube videos as he is for his live and online playing exploits, Polk has never lacked confidence – as evidenced by his challenge match online against Ben ‘Sauce123’ Sulsky for the unofficial title of best heads-up player in the world – ‘WCGRider’ Polk won and has never looked back since, although not everyone seems aware of his wider successes!
I got recognized as "That Youtube guy" at the Aria today. I finally made it.

Unlike some aspects of that other popular high-stakes pastime – prop-betting – cross-booking tends to happen when someone thinks they have a poker-edge over their ‘opponent’.
In an episode of Poker After Dark, Daniel Negreanu told Phil Hellmuth that "I will cross-book you ALL DAY! Anytime you want. You're terrible!" So the basic plan is to cross-book with someone who you feel is less likely to cash than you – although obviously this doesn’t always work out!
Anyway, back to Polk and Smith’s little wager – and the $292,232 first prize which would have seen Polk doubling his money? Fortunately for the philanthropic Smith, Polk didn’t quite make it to the winner’s podium, or any of the cash for that matter. The Instagram updates went quiet and Smith could focus his attention on the amazing charity drive he’s pushing…
Wow! @bigpapagates filled the remaining $125,000 of the drive and is matching an additional $200,000! Details https://t.co/KvspvO5Cgt
