It was probably the most-hyped build-up anyone has ever seen at the World Series of Poker, but Phil Hellmuth’s grand entrance turned out to be something of a damp squib – fans of Marvel comics unimpressed with his barely-recognisable Thor costume, an embarrassing blow-up hammer supposedly the legendary Mjolnir that the mythical Norse God wielded!

Phil had promised a bevy of 14 models dressed as DC characters to accompany him as he rode in on a customised chopper, but the fair maidens were nowhere to be seen as the Poker Brat struggled to control the long-forked beast of a bike…

Hellmuth’s Independence day arrival was expected to be an amazing Main Event entrance for the ages, trumping his previous efforts which he described in a series of tweets yesterday, also revealing that the WSOP organisers had refused him permission to ride the hog down the Rio Casino hallways…

…a great idea given his NASCAR carpark foul up back in 2008 when he drove into a safety bollard and smashed the front end of a perfectly good car!

Fans of the 14-time WSOP bracelet winner were still happy to see their favourite pro playing make-believe, King’s Casino man Warren Lush grabbing a pic before Hellmuth could ride off into the back of a parked van or security man…

Whether the big man will make it through the Main Event by wielding his fake hammer remains to be seen, but it appears he may have a new career waiting in the commentary booth if his bracelet hunt falters early…
