It's Been a Year Since Run It Once Poker Site Announcement And It's Still In Development

It's been more than a year since Phil Galfond announced to the world that he would launch a poker site with an estimated roll out date of Q1 in 2017.

That announcement was met with excitement and glee among poker players who had tired of shrinking profits due to more rake, slashed loyalty benefits, and an industry push toward kissing the derrieres of casual players. But when Q1 of this year had come and gone without Run it Once up and running, Galfond admitted that the project was taking longer than expected and reminded players that the initial ETA was merely an estimate.

Now that the 1-year anniversary of Galfond's first mention that he was "going to give it my best shot" with regard to launching an online poker room has passed, players anxious to kick PokerStars and 888poker to the curb have been wondering what's up with Run it Once Poker.

Galfond dutifully posted a series of tweets the other day, and also pasted them on his Run it Once training site, informing the masses that RIO poker remains a priority, but that some other as yet unnamed projects have taken time away from the development of the poker site.

The forumites at 2+2 responded to the news as one might expect, some taking a stab at a bit of humor such as this post by 'Daxxar':

"Back to hybernation, wake me up when site is ready. All joking a side, good to at least hear that he(them) continue to work hard on RIO poker."

And yet other posters displayed the sarcasm that has become a hallmark of 2+2ers:

"i hope all this time is them actually pooling money together and finding investors to buy Amaya/stars at this point," stated 'TreadLightly.'

Uhm, no, that's not gonna happen. Galfond will not be taking over PokerStars, but is instead focused on "providing a viable alternative in the online poker market."

That alternative, when the launch date finally arrives, will hopefully "impact policy across the industry for the better," as was previously stated by Galfond as a major goal of this project.

For many players, that day can't get here fast enough.
