In a move that's been a long time coming, Party Poker announced a brand new project aimed at attracting more women to the game of poker by forming ladies only social media accounts tied in with poker tournaments.

With a desire to give "the female poker players out there the opportunity to socialise and play poker with like minded women from around the globe," Party Poker set up Ladies Instagram accounts and a Ladies Forum on Facebook. Women who sign up are encouraged to discuss all things poker with each other and will also receive updates pertaining to Party Poker happenings.

Powerfest For Ladies

Included in the mix are ladies only tournaments such as the Irish Ladies Championship held at Grand Prix Killarney on Sept. 10 and the $109 buy-in $10K GTD Ladies Event at Powerfest scheduled for Sept. 24. That online tournament a couple weeks from now will feature Party Poker pros Kristen Bicknell, Natalia Breviglieri, and Beata Jambrik, each with a $109 bounty on their heads.

The Powerfest and Grand Prix Killarney events are a follow-up to the inaugural Ladies tournament held at the Party Poker MILLIONS at Dusk Till Dawn last April. In the future, Party Poker promises "many more tournaments designed with female poker players," details of which will be found at the previously mentioned social media channels.

It's Still Raining Men in Poker

Participation by women in poker continues to hover around the 5% mark, a percentage much too low for practically everybody's liking. For instance, the 2017 WSOP this summer reported that female entries in tournaments totaled only 6,516 of the 120,995 players who entered - a mere 5.4%.

Hats off to Party Poker for doing their part in promoting poker to the fairer sex. Other poker sites are encouraged to follow suit.
