Lex Veldhuis Ecstatic at Ajax Win

It’s been a week or two to remember for Lex RaSZi Veldhuis for a few reasons, but it was football rather than poker that had him screaming from the rafters – his favourite Ajax team defeating Juventus in the Champions League…

The 35-year old Dutchman represents PokerStars, but the green felt was far from his mind as his Amsterdam-based side fought off the legendary Italian team to secure a spot in the semi-finals of the biggest club competition in Europe, if not the world.

Poker players are known for their love of sports, of course, some for the gambling and some for the love of the game – partypoker’s Sam Trickett for example missing out on the World Series of Poker last summer to follow England in far-off Russia…

For Veldhuis there was no need to go to such extremes, the TwitchTV star managing to combine his football needs with his usual streaming schedule, picking up a poker award, as well as a visit to Twitchcon in Berlin.

It’s what comes next for the Dutchman that could be his biggest problems, however – Ajax possibly facing Spurs in the semi-finals, the London team a firm favourite of highstakes cash game specialist Luke _fullflush1_ Schwartz.

If the big match-up happens, it could well lead to a Twitter battle between the poker giants, with Schwartz looking to another sport for inspiration…

So, while the American poker pros discuss the latest NBA and NHL happenings, over in Europe it’s football all the way, with Veldhuis and Ajax front and centre.
