The leaderboard race madness of the OPL season 12 is here, players getting set to chase $25,000 in cash added prizes across 18 days and 5 online poker rooms.

The world’s largest online poker league will visit ACR, Global Poker, HighStakes, GreySnow and GUTS this season, with tournaments ranging from freerolls to €50 buy-ins – and leaderboard points to be won along the way.

Come season end, when the points are tallied up, the winner will walk off with an extra €1250, with the next two spots grabbing €750 and €500, and prizes all the way down to 20th.

To give you an idea of what’s required to top the overall table, last season’s winner Yazbik accumulated 500 points across nine events, equivalent to five wins as you can see from the chart below…

Leaderboard points per tournament

  • 1st - 100pt
  • 2nd - 75pt
  • 3rd - 65pt
  • 4th - 55pt
  • 5th - 50pt
  • 6th - 45pt
  • 7th - 40pt
  • 8th - 35pt
  • 9th - 30pt
  • 10th - 25pt

The league set-up is simple – you can play as many or as few tournaments as you like, on any - or all - of the cardrooms, and at any buy-in – with the opening freerolls counting towards your leaderboard  position.

As recent seasons have shown, those who land early deep runs tend to be a or near the top of the race when it comes down to the finish – last season just 20 points separating the winner from his nearest challenger.

The top 10 averaged just over 7 tournaments each in the chase for the big cash leaderboard prizes, about 30% of the total tournament available.

The OPL kicks off on the 28th November, with GUTS and ACR hosting €200/$200 GTD freeroll tournaments.

GUTS poker room has been part of the OPL set-up for a number of seasons, while ACR (Americas CardRoom) is well-known as the biggest US-facing online poker site.

If you plan to pick and choose your OPL season events, newcomer GreySnow Poker, who celebrate their 1st birthday this week and boast highstakes pro Rainer Kempe as their ambassador, have a $20 buy-in, $750-added tournament on December 5th.

Global Poker, the unique and innovative US-facing site with a strong poker community appeal, offer up a $20 buy-in, $1500 GTD event on December 8th.

The same evening there will be a €200 GTD freeroll on HighStakes, home to live and online legend Joseph 'subiime' Cheong, who added a WSOP bracelet to his resume this summer.
