This year's EGR Awards crowned a new winner in the Poker Operator category, as Party Poker claimed the prize and ended PokerStars' string of three blue ribbons in a row from 2014-16.

Of course, such awards are highly subjective, as different players look for different things in determining the poker site that best meets their needs and preferences. However, this ceremony was hosted by eGaming Review and they are free to select whomever they choose as the top poker operator.

But when you consider that PokerStars won during years that included rake hikes, player strikes, and a general feeling by many that longtime grinders were getting screwed, it makes one wonder what the criteria are for being honored as the best in the business.

As Well-Deserved As Any

That being said, it certainly seems that Party Poker is as deserving a winner as can be found for 'Poker Operator of the Year' in 2017. Recent changes for the better include revamped software, the restoration of rakeback, a new live tour, new social media platforms dedicated to ladies, an overhauled and bigger tournament schedule, and a bevy of renowned poker pros acting as ambassadors for the site.

"Party Poker has been transformed from a declining brand to a poker site that is now delivering a real challenge to the global poker market," stated Party Poker Managing Director Tom Waters on the site's blog. "It is testament to the hard work and dedication of the Party Poker team over the last year and hopefully this is just the beginning.”

The Grosvenor House in London was the venue that hosted the ceremony on Oct. 26 and included the distribution of awards to winners in more than two dozen egaming categories. While Party Poker and parent company GVC Holdings topped the field of poker operators that included PokerStars, 888poker, Pokerdom, and Sky Betting & Gaming, they made another trip to the dais for winning the 'Casino Operator of the Year' award as well.

Other Winners

Sky Betting & Gaming did not go home empty-handed, claiming four awards that included recognition for Sports Betting, In-play Sports, Mobile, and Football Betting. Each of those honors were attached with the 'Operator of the Year' tag.

Some of the other winners included Bet365 for 'Operator of the Year,' The Stars Group for best 'Mobile Poker Product' and 'Marketing Campaign,' Danske Spil for 'eSports Operator of the Year,' and Betsson Group for 'Customer Services Operator.'

Party Poker extended its gratitude to its players by posting the following on its blog:

"This victory would also not have been possible without the support of you, our loyal and valued customers and we would like to thank each and every one of you for continuing to play online poker at Party Poker."
