This past year or two has seen PartyPoker introduce so many positive changes that it comes as no real surprise that yet another has appeared, the team set to introduce a new currency – PP Live $$$ - which will allow online qualifiers to choose which live event they play in.

It’s in response to online players’ complaints that changes in personal circumstances between qualifying for an event and the event starting would often see them receiving nothing for their efforts, their stack being in play and blinded off as they were otherwise occupied with unavoidable commitments elsewhere.

However, from January 1st 2018, the new currency will allow players to use their satellite wins to buy-in to any PartyPoker LIVE Main or side event across all the live brands – the newly-introduced flexibility also letting them use their Live $$$ to pay for hotel and travel expenses.

John Duthie, the EPT founder back in 2004 who earlier this year took on a 5-year commitment as President of PartyPoker LIVE, explained the site’s approach in a press release this week, saying:

"We’ve spent a lot of this year listening to players and one of the most common criticisms about the online to LIVE satellite route has always been getting locked into specific events when circumstances may change."
"Enter PartyPoker LIVE $$$," he added. "These can be used to buy in to any PartyPoker LIVE event worldwide and also to pay for travel and accommodation. They will have no expiry date. This gives players such freedom!"

The announcement also included the news of a $1million leaderboard for 2018, the huge prizefund to be ‘divvied up between the top players,’ says Duthie who stated:

"We’d rather give money to our customers than spend it on advertising. I hope you love this idea as much as I do."

The leaderboard idea has the backing of PartyPoker Ambassador Patrick ‘pas1161’ Leonard, the online and live pro saying of the announcement:

"I've always liked leaderboards. I first started playing tournaments because I wanted to reach number 1 in the world on PocketFives, I played every day and it was really fun to have extra competition."

He added:

"When I spoke to the guys about the possibility of a $1m leaderboard it made me think of the good old days of poker. Thankfully it seems like the good days are back."

To help launch the new currency, a PartyPoker will see any satellite qualifier who manages to also take down the $5M Gtd MILLIONS Online running from December 3rd-5th awarded $100,000 of the new PP Live $$$ currency – which naturally can be used to enter any event or events they want in the PartyPoker Live schedule.
