One of the most sought-after domain names in the world of poker – Poker.com - has been put on the market with a price tag of $20million according to Igamingbusiness.com, with the special internet address up for auction on January 30th if it hasn’t sold before that date.

Poker.com is just one of a host of names related to poker which have been advertised as up for grabs by internet and domain consultancy RightOfTheDot and domain auction company NameJet, with the likes of Poker.asia available for $5m, Holdem.net yours for $30,000 and Skillpoker.com on sale for $5,000 according to the interactive gaming industry portal.

Although never confirmed, reports in 2007 claimed that the domain was sold for between $22million and $27million, having previously belonged to Poker.com Inc, who ‘obtained the worldwide rights to the domain Poker.com for 99 years’ via a deal with UniNet Technology Inc. who themselves obtained the domain rights from AlaCorp Inc.

At the present time, Poker.com is a portal which offers links to online poker, tournaments, all manner of poker games and rules tutorials, as well as featured poker pros and celebrities. The homepage currently boasts a small header reading:

‘This domain is for sale. Please email us for any enquiries you may have’.

According to iGaming, ‘the $5.5m paid for Slots.com and Casino.com are the biggest confirmed deals involving gambling domains’, adding that the Gambling.com domain name ‘sold for $2.5m in April 2011’.

If the domains are not acquired on the open market, they will be sold off in a NamesCon live auction expected to run on January 30th next year, with other domains of a non-gambling nature also available, the likes of Lucky.com currently on sale for $6.5m, with Houses.com at $5m and Super.com yours for only $3.3m.

NamesCon was founded in 2013, and class their Vegas auction as their ‘flagship event’ stating that it ‘has grown to be the largest and most anticipated domain industry event of the year’.

Other poker-related domain names available include Wsopoker.net, Pokerante.com, and Pokermoney.com. Although Wsopoker.net currently has no bids, the next item on the list does… X-ratedfilms.com. However, if you plan to blog about that on Shock.com, you should know that bidding for that site is already at $102,000!

Wikipedia list some of the most-expensive ever domains, with Insurance.com topping the table at $35.6m in 2010 although the entry adds ‘Many high-profile domain sales either sold privately or by brokerage firms are kept confidential’.
