“It's time for the return of live poker tournaments unlike any other on offer in Latin America” they said, but it seems that the PokerStars sponsored LAPT has run aground before the first stop of the year – creating havoc for those who have already booked up for the LAPT Chile stop.

2+2 poster ‘mtaigo’ apparently broke the news on the forum yesterday with a post headed ‘pokerstars cancels lapt tour’ stating that:

“Pokerstars just sent me an email saying they just cancelled the first stop of the lapt tour! With 1 month to go, I’ve already bought all tickets for me and my whole family! This is ridiculous.”

The Spanish–language website Poker10.com, with an obvious interest in the Latin American poker community, wrote: “There were clear clues, such as the disappearance of the satellites for the tournament in the lobby of the room. However, anyone interested in this fact could look for more information on the official website and find that the page with information about the event is active on the Pokerstars LIVE page. There has still been no press release or official communication about the cancellation.”

As ‘mtaigo’ stated:

"PS: they didn’t even post about it, I’ve sent an email asking about the schedule, and they answer me saying its over. Nice way to get back to the old tours."

Stepping in to fill the gap

With no official news as to why the opening event of the 2018 series has been cancelled – or whether the rest of the series will go ahead – some small comfort for those already booked up for the Santiago trip appeared…

‘To compensate for that gap left by the sad news of the Latin American tour, the organization Casino Poker Enjoy has decided to give us a nice gift: the Master Viña del Mar EPS,’ wrote Juan Pablo Contreras on Codigopoker.com.

He added: ‘This meeting will run from Wednesday 7 to Sunday 11 March at the Enjoy Casino in the garden city and will have 16 tournaments for all tastes and pockets. Among the most outstanding events we will have is a FreeRoll, satellites, a Second Chance with CL $20 million GTD and the Main Event that will have CL $ 90,000,000 guaranteed to be distributed!’

LAPT resurrection?

The Latin American poker tour was due to be one of the tours revived by PokerStars in response to the disappointing changes they made to a number of popular series’ back in 2016, the famous European Poker Tour (EPT) and the Asian Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) both up for a second chance. The latest news, however, is more than disconcerting for players – and fans – of the events.

PokerTube will bring you an update on this situation as soon as PokerStars respond.
