The disturbing case of Real Grinders founder Raymond Davis, who is facing child sexual abuse charges, took another twist â the accused requesting a new judge for his trialâŚ
As PokerTube revealed recently, 52-year old Davis was arrested earlier this year, almost 3 years after a warrant was issued for his arrest in connection with several accusations of sexual crimes against minors.
Davis is due to stand trial on nine charges of sex crimes against children, allegedly paying underage females for oral sex and to watch them shower while he masturbated.
This week in Las Vegas, Davis requested permission to address the court, despite his lawyer not being present.
Judge Linda Bell stated:
âSir, I really donât think thatâs a good idea without your lawyer being hereâ, but Davis insisted â⌠I know what Iâm doingâ, according to press reports of the exchange.
Davis then addressed the court, claiming: âFrom day one, it has been total bias against meâ, having previously accused prosecutors and another judge of various unethical practices.
His earlier court outbursts saw his bail raised from $25,000 to $500,000 â with âhouse arrestâ and âhigh-level monitoringâ included in the conditions.
In a recent jailhouse interview with 8newsnowâs I-team investigative reporters, he claimed:
âI have been to massage parlors, I admit that. I have picked up girls off Craigslist. I admit that. But I have never, never in my life paid a girl, underage woman, girl, for sex.â
Despite his protestations, Davis is also âalleged to have committed sex acts against children dating back to 2000â, as well as reportedly offering the prosecutor $50,000 and âsaid he could give her information about a sex trafficking ringâ.
Davis also claimed he had âmore than $17,000,000â in poker winnings, although as we reported previously, he has only $1,663,459 in live cashes recorded on the Hendon Mob, the biggest being a $177,600 payout at the 2008 WSOP.
His request for a new trial judge was rejected by Judge Bell, who stated:
âSir, I canât do that here. You are welcome to address that the next time that you are in the trial department."
Davis faces 35 years in prison if convicted, his trial scheduled for February 2020.
