I’ve never been keen on the ‘teaser’, that person or thing which promises to tell you some earth-shattering news, or that what’s coming in the next series will blow your mind. It rarely does in the ‘normal’ world.

In the poker world, on the other hand, teasers are what keep writers and journos like me breathing – the possibility of a big, juicy story, or perhaps a scandal which we can get our teeth into.

Well, now there’s a ‘teaser’ out there in pokerville, with high-stakes cash-game queen Dr. Jaclynn Moskow promising to reveal all. But what her forthcoming revelations concern is still a mystery.

The Tease

Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth. Poker industry whistleblowing from me in upcoming weeks. Stay tuned.”

This was her tweet last week, stirring up a hornet’s nest of debate, with talk on forums of dodgy dealers, cheating, and behind-the-scenes approaches of a dubious nature.

Of course, poker forums are trolled beyond a joke at times. The 2+2 thread spending more time discussing the wrong people and even the wrong bloody poker show! However, eventually, if you can stand sifting through all the shit, you find the little nuggets of information you need to piece things together.

‘Poker Night in America’ is the scene of Moskow’s ‘whistleblowing teaser’, so let’s have a look at what may or may not have occurred.

The Background

“On December 2nd, Poker Night in America filmed a ladies only 25-50 no limit holdem cash game,” said PokerWomenNews at the start of their interview with Dr. Moskow. “The game was livestreamed online and episodes begin airing on CBS Sports Network on January 5.”

At no point in the ensuing PWN interview did Moskow claim anything untoward either during the game nor off-camera. She was, in fact, very enthusiastic about the whole thing – with the small exception that she was pulled off the table after the dinner break, and even here she seemed to take it well, understanding the producer’s reasons.

“ Todd Anderson, the show’s creator, told me that I had to give my seat up,” stated Moskow. “There were other players who wanted to get into the game and since I was the only one there who also played two days prior on a different episode filmed at Hard Rock, as well as two weeks prior on the Pittsburgh episodes, it made sense to give someone else some play time.”

Good, good. Jokes about Hellmuth, discussions of cleavage, excellent play, and looking forward to further promotion of the women’s game. Not exactly ‘nothing-to-see-here, move along’, but certainly no signs of anything dubious or scandalous, however…

Fast forward

Enter ‘Limon’, a regular on the TwoPlusTwo forum - a poker player who runs the PokerSesh podcast and who had Jaclynn Moskow on his show. According to Limon:

“During the broadcast, she claimed in passing that she’d been offered $15,000 not to talk about her experience on the show and that she had documentation to this effect.”

HighRollerRadio's tweet came:

Breaking News: Allegations on LIVEattheBike w/ @limonre Poker Night in America, what a teaser. Need full story.”;

$15,000? What for?

Well, when someone claims to have ‘industry whistle-blowing’ on their mind, as Moskow stated on Twitter, and claims she has been offered $15K not to talk about her experience on a particular show, especially one she has raved about previously, then the rumour/gossip/investigative mill starts to work overtime!

Cheating on the show? Mechanics? Inappropriate behaviour? Hmm…well Moskow promises to reveal all in a blog post soon enough. In the meantime, Limon has taken to 2+2 to squash the cheating rumours

There is no cheating alleged at this time and the show in question is poker night in america. She was on my podcast POKERSESH,” stated Limon, adding, “I have no clue what these allegations mean or prove. It was discussed no further. It doesn’t mean anything was done wrong by PNIA or Nolan Dalla as settlements are not admissions of guilt.”

Dr. Jaclynn Moskow

Moskow is a rather unusual character in the poker world, her Twitter bio giving us a little insight:

Cash game poker pro, former physician scientist, punk rocker. I don't eat other creatures, don't watch TV, facebook free, & tweeting makes me uncomfortable."

Tweeting might well make her uncomfortable, but she seems fairly proficient at it: over 100 tweets and some 2000 followers –perhaps not a lot by Twitter standards, but fun enough to read and mostly poker-based.

She may well be a blonde-haired bombshell of a female in the male-dominated world of poker, (as a recent tweet of her own confirms “Unknown walks up to table, says "you're beautiful, I could put you in a movie, filming tomorrow!" [Ticked] off ‘approached to do porn while playing poker’,) but her academic/scientific credentials, coupled with her ‘mid/high stakes poker-pro-life’ of the last three years, give Moskow a certain standing and authority – so whatever she plans to reveal is worth watching out for.

Anyone who can boast of writing an undergraduate thesis entitled: "An Overview of the Study of Tumorigenesis throughout History with a focus on Simian Virus 40 and its Mechanism of Cellular Transformation," is no dummy, and surprisingly, so far at least, the poker forums are not awash with the usual ‘female poker player using her physical assets’ to make their way in the poker scene.

We may not have too long to wait to find out what the ‘scandal’ is and what the $15K was meant to silence, if anything. Dr. Moskow tweeted recently:

Will get blog up as soon as it is feasible for me and yes limonpoker still gets 1st interview. I don’t go back on my word.”

‘Females whistle-blowing’ instead of ‘wolf-whistling at females’? It’s a new world of poker, I tell ya!
