Grinding the Spin & Go tournaments can be horrendous at times, driving any man or woman to the brink of madness. And one Russian poker pro who goes under the alias of ‘aKTepnOpHo’ knows it.

He had the time of his life in the first half of 2015 crushing the Spin & Go’s and MTTs on PokerStars and earning almost $20,000 in just eight months. After that though, the downswing hit home hard and almost made him regret his decision of choosing such high-variance games.

Not only did he lose all he had earned during his hot streak, he also dug himself quite a hole reaching the -$12,000 mark in just ten months or so. Yes that’s right, we’re talking about a $32,000 downswing in less than a year. So the Russian pro got to the point where he literally beat himself up on Twitch in front of all his Russian audience:

And really ladies and gents, who can possibly blame him after seeing such such awful graphs?

Yet surprisingly enough, ‘aKTepnOpHo’ kept going and continued to grind these games. And because of his perseverance, the poker gods repaid him with a life-changing prize that left the whole Poker Twitch community in awe.

A €300,000 Spin & Go

Besides the worldwide PokerStars server, the Russian pro also plays Spins and tournaments on PokerStars.fr. Since things were going bad on PS, he decided to try his luck with the French. There he plays under the nickname of ‘SolidPenis’. Nothing out of the ordinary so far - ok let’s just forget about his alias for a moment - and nothing seemed to click for him last Friday, in one of his usual Twitch streams. Again he ran pretty bad and not even pocket Aces held up. In one of his many Spin & Go’s, he had a big chip advantage and the magical bullets yet he lost once more.

More downswing?

Not so fast…

The very next €25 Spin & Go turned out to be one for the ages. The spin suddenly stopped at €300,000 and ‘SolidPenis’ couldn’t believe it. He had the unique opportunity to win €250,000.

‘It’s not happening for real,’ the Russian pro said on Twitch not believing his eyes.

One in a million probability."

He once again slapped himself, this time though, to snap out of it and try to control his emotions. He even folded a straight and what happened next is a genuine proof that when you run good when it matters, the downswing can finish in an instance. He first shoved six-seven off-suit blind vs. blind and got called by King-Queen. The flop and turn bricked, while the river repaid the Russian with a made pair good enough to go heads-up. The next two hands settled the deal; he shoved Ace-Ten in the first one and called villain’s shove with Ace-Two in the second one. His opponent had pocket fours that improved to a set on the turn yet that particular four on the board was actually gold for ‘SolidPenis’ as he made the lucky straight. The river didn’t pair the board and the Russian pro started celebrating.

You can watch the Spin & Go in English courtesy to PokerStars Team Pro Mikhail "innerpsy" Shalamov below:

That’s how you turn €25 into €250,000.

A New Twitch Record

The €250,000 win is a new Twitch record dethroning Doug ‘WCGRider’ Polk for biggest poker prize won while streaming on Twitch. Just several months ago, in April of 2016, Polk won the $700 buy-in Kilimanjaro event - part of the PokerStars Mountain Series promotion - for $162,000. Before him, in September of 2015, Rupert Elder won $124,000 on the Winning Poker Network (WPN) while Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier set the initial money record in May 2015 when he finished fifth in a PokerStars’ SCOOP event good for almost $80,000.

Congrats to the Russian poker pro for his big win and for setting up the new Twitch record. If you’re interested to see how he handles all these crazy swings and what he will play from now on, go ahead and visit his Twitch channel here. Who knows, maybe you’ll pick some valuable things up from his Spin & Go strategy and next time, the big jackpot prize will hit your cashier.
