Liv Boeree Under Attack for Annie Duke Defense
Former poker player Annie Duke may be well used to receiving abuse for her shady practices over the years, but it was Liv Boeree in the firing line on Twitter.
David Williams is one of the most successful poker players of all time, with millions of dollars in tournament and cash game earnings. Like so many others who have gone on to win big in poker, David started out playing Magic: The Gathering. He competed on the circuit as a pro in his student days, and it was there that he was introduced to the game of poker.
His live tournament career started off with a bang when he almost took down the 2004 World Series of Poker* Main Event. He won his seat via a PokerStars satellite and made his way through one of the first huge fields of the modern era to finish as runner-up to Team PokerStars Pro Greg Raymer. It was heartbreaking to come so close, but it was a result still good for a huge cash of $3,500,000. That performance also kick started a run of incredible cashes that hasn’t let up since. A few months after the Main Event he finished second at the WPT Borgata Poker Open for $573,800, followed by a win in a side event at the World Poker Classic in Las Vegas. His next big results came with a 4th place finish for $280,000 at the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Stars, and a cash in the WPT Championship event. He then returned to Las Vegas for the 2006 WSOP* and bagged that elusive bracelet. It came in a $1,500 7 Card Stud event where David beat a tough field to claim the title and prize money of $163,118. Just days later he came close to winning another bracelet when he finished as runner-up in a $5,000 2-7 Draw Lowball event for $256,091. He’s become one of the biggest stars in poker since, earning the respect of both the fans and the other major pros on the circuit. The results have kept on coming too, including a huge cash of $1,530,537 for winning the WPT $25,000 Championship event in 2010. David has also posted some big results online at PokerStars, including a World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) title in an 8-Game tournament for a cash of $107,800.
Outside of poker David still plays Magic: The Gathering regularly with other poker pros that live in the same Las Vegas apartments as him. He also enjoys travelling, watching TV and collecting sneakers. He’s already close friends with many of the biggest names on the team and is pleased to be playing alongside them as he looks to take down his next major title. David is a member of Team PokerStars Pro and plays online using the screen name ‘dwilliams’ (formerly known as ‘RugDoctor’).
