A would-be casino robber was shot dead by Las Vegas police this week after two failed armed hold-ups resulted in a seven-hour standoff close to the Nevada-Arizona border.

The as yet unnamed bandit had attempted to rob both the Aquarius Casino Resort and the Golden Nugget casino in Laughlin, a small town on the Colorado River noted for its gaming and watersports.

In both attempted robberies the man presented a gun at the cashier counter, though the employees refused to hand over cash in either casino.

When leaving the Aquarius at about 1-30am this Monday past after his second failed attempt, he fired a shot at the cashier who followed him outside, thankfully missing the worker.

Police surrounded his car before he could make his getaway and a seven-hour stand-off ensued, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan Capt. Nichole Splinter.

At around 7am, the gunman exited his vehicle with the weapon drawn, at which point he was shot and killed.

The two police officers involved are now on ‘paid leave pending the results of departmental and district attorney reviews of the shooting’ according to the Las Vegas Sun report of the deadly incident.

Earlier this year we reported on Michael Charles Cohen, the Bellagio poker room robber who was shot dead while trying to escape during his second heist attempt, the first successful back in 2017.

Just this week police in Oklahoma arrested a man in connection with the violent robbery of a poker player at Harrah’s Casino in North Kansas City, Missouri.

Such incidents are far from rare in the poker and gambling world, as this top 5 poker robberies article shows.
