It wasn’t just Phil Hellmuth who was visiting the hospital sick room last week, fellow high-roller Connor Drinan managing to somehow destroy his arm in a bout of arm-wrestling – the 29 year old Chicago pro urging kids not to try this at home!

A splint capela was the end result of Drinan’s ill-advised struggle – although he doesn’t say who was on the other end of the evidently competitive arm-wrestling competition.

One person it’s unlikely to have been is Phil Hellmuth, the Poker Brat facing enough troubles of his own after spending almost 48 hours in bed last weekend with arrhythmia – the erratic heartbeat neither preventing him from running deep in the WPT Bobby Baldwin Classic, nor coming under fire for defending Chris Ferguson in this week’s biggest poker story by far – ‘Jesus’ briefly apologising for his Full Tilt Poker shortcomings and the demise of legal US poker sites following Black Friday...

Poker-injuries among the top boys of the game aren’t even that unusual, Daniel Negreanurecently in for surgery on an ACL problem he’s had for a while, and Antonio Esfandiari infamously being disqualified after deciding to pee in a bottle at the table after killing his legs in a ‘lunge prop bet’ with Bill Perkins.

One almost at the table incident caught on camera back in 2010 saw Justin ‘Boosted J’ Smith tear his ACL in much stranger fashion than Negreanu’s similar injury, Smith celebrating with his rail and, well, watch it for yourself!
