WSOP 2018 Official Schedule Released

The official schedule for the 49th World Series of Poker has been released. The prestigious tournament series returns to its usual venue at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 30th. 77 events will be held next year.

Days before the formal announcement a draft schedule for the WSOP was leaked to the internet which turned out to be by and large accurate. At the time PartyPoker ambassador Patrick Leonard tweeted out that he found it strange not to see the popular $10K 6-max tourney among the events on the draft - the $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em 6-Handed Championship made the “final cut”, however, it starts on July 11th.

Three more events will be played next year than were played in 2017 - the number of bracelets given out will go up from 74 to 77. The new events include the $565 WSOP.com ONLINE Pot-Limit Omaha 6-Handed (this is one of the four online championships), $365 THE PLO GIANT, $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Bounty, $1,000 Double Stack No-Limit Hold'em, The Closer - $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em with $1M GTD prize pool, $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em Super Turbo Bounty, $50,000 No-Limit Hold'em High Roller and the $100,000 No-Limit High Roller.

Some events will not return from last year, like the $10K Seven Card Stud or the $10K Tag Team NLHE.

We have one big returnee, however: after 4 years of absence the $1 million buy-in WSOP Big One for One Drop is back on the schedule. This event is sure to attract the biggest names in poker from around the world. Antonio Esfandiari’s record still stands from 2012 - he won the first Big One Drop ever held that year for $18,346,673, and that is still the most amount of money ever awarded to one player in a tournament.

The most anticipated tournament of all, the WSOP Main Event starts on Monday, July 2 and is planned to finish on July 14th. Last year’s champion, Scott Blumstein can attempt to do what no-one was able to do since Johnny Chan in 1988, to defend his title. Evidently, the fields have grown exponentially since Chan’s time, so it is very unlikely someone will ever be able to win two Main Events back to back again.

The start and finish dates are the same they were this year: the 49th World Series of Poker will be held May 30th - July 17th 2018.
