Sportstars and entertainers aren’t entirely new to the game of poker, but yesterday saw a royal rumble at the tables when the biggest names in WWE wrestling tried their hand at an entirely different ‘ring game’ – celebrating 25 years of the organisation with a poker night.

Legends of the canvas such as the APA Tag team of ‘Bradshaw’ (John Layfield) and ‘Faarooq’ (Ron Simmons) returned to do battle with foes of old and new alike such as Slater and Rhino – and in their humorous promo all is going about as expected  until ‘daddy’ of the WWE Legends program 63-year old Ted DiBiase makes an appearance…

Poker has certainly had seen its share of stars from other fields, whether it be Boris Becker of tennis fame, soccer star Ronaldo, the fastest man in the world Usain Bolt and a mass of ‘entertainment’ stars all the way down history from George Burns to Ben Affleck – but wrestlers who play poker? As thin on the ground as the WWE crew are thick around their chests and arms.

The excellently-named 305MVP – with the ring name Montel Vontavious Porter – came under the watchful eye of one Twitter fan however, with a move which might not even be approved of in the wrestling world…

Whether or not we’ll ever see a WWE Raw star at the World Series is a question for the future, but for the time being it’s great to see another bunch of high-profile sporting entertainers enjoying our game.
