The speechplay which has surrounded the controversial and divisive figure of William Kassouf throughout much of 2016 took a new twist, when Stacy Matuson challenged the Englishman to a heads-up match!

Obviously still pained by the very public argument which took place at last summer’s WSOP, Matuson took to Instagram to seek her revenge, stating:

"Let's be real if I called with the queens no one would know who William Kassouf was at that time."

Matuson is referring to the infamous hand which launched Kassouf into a media frenzy when she mucked her queens only to see Kassouf table his bluff with his “Nine high like a boss” comment.

As I wrote last year:

"Kassouf’s constant chatter and gamesmanship left fellow player Stacy Matuson visibly unsettled as she had to decide whether to call Kassouf’s bet for her tournament life – as did the calling of the clock by a fellow player, fed up with the Londoner’s annoying talk and Matuson’s inability to make a decision."

Now Matuson is out for revenge, her Instagram post setting out details of a rematch she is desperate to arrange.

The short video sees Matuson call Kassouf out in no uncertain terms:

"Hey Willy K, you think you’re a boss because you bluffed me? I challenge you to a heads-up match at 888live Fest at King’s Casino. I’ll be there from Feb. 1 to Feb. 6. This is a trophy you can’t buy. Let’s see who the real boss is!"

The challenge shouldn’t come as a huge surprise to followers of her Twitter-feed, a party at the Mizrachi brothers having the password KassoufQQ for free entry – one of her friends then suggesting a heads-up challenge against the English pro.

Quite what Kassouf thinks of the challenge so far is unknown, but doubtless the Englishman will respond soon enough in his own inimitable way! Co-incidentally, his friend Dan O'Callaghan had an interview with Pokerplayer365.com published.

In it he states:

"We’ve all seen the footage, so without labouring the point, it’s fair to say that Will ruffled a few feathers during the Main Event. Sure, tensions were high and the money was huge, but the way the crowd and players responded to Kassouf was both immature and destructive, and completely unacceptable."

Whether Kassouf accepts Matuson’s or not, he’s having a busy time making money and getting under people’s skin – and it seems we haven’t heard the last of many of his recent poker-table battles!
