Jake Cody Departs PokerStars as Team Pro Exodus Continues
Six years as a PokerStars ambassador has come to an end for Jake Cody
Hailing from Rochdale, England, Jake Cody has established himself as one of the leading young British players. Cody was initially introduced to poker at the age of 15 playing £5 sit-n-goes with his mates from a local pub pool team. He would also often play heads-up with his best friend, and now two-time WSOP bracelet winner, Matt Perrins.
Cody began his online poker career by depositing $10 on PartyPoker and states that he hasn’t made another deposit since.
Although he attended university for a short time pursuing a psychology degree, he was more focused on playing poker and improving his game, regularly playing up to twelve hours a day. Despite his parents wishing him to stay in education, Cody dropped out to pursue his playing career.
After a few minor cashes in Grosvenor UK Poker Tour events and UK and Ireland Poker Tour events, Cody recorded his first major win in January 2010 when he took down the EPT Deauville Main Event for €847,000. Cody outlasted 767 other players, including a final table that included Peter Eastgate and Bertrand ‘Elky’ Grospellier.
Just 6 months later in August, Cody carried on this form when he took first place at WPT London for $273,783, completing the second part of poker’s Triple Crown. Cody was awarded for these impressive efforts in 2010 by receiving the European Poker Award’s Player of the Year award. Cody was unable to attend the event, however, as he was busy winning the UKIPT Nottingham’s high roller event for £34,200, defeating Dave ‘Devilfish’ Ulliot heads up. Cody has also enjoyed success at the World Series of Poker: he completed his Triple Crown in just his second event, as he won the $25,000 NLHE Heads-Up Championship. This made Cody one of just five players who have managed to complete a Triple Crown, accomplishing the feat in just eighteen months. Cody is now regarded as one of the most dangerous tournament players in the world, and he is sure to add more silverware in the future.
