For someone who ‘can’t beat online’ anymore according to one loudmouth opponent last week, Doug Polk certainly answered his critics this week with a fantastic take-down of the $271,000 first prize in PartyPoker’s Powerfest – breaking the cash record for winning live on YouTube!

The $1million guaranteed High Roller event saw a $5200 buy-in, and Polk streamed the entire run on his own channel, having just decided to move most of his live content over from TwitchTV – where he also just happens to hold the record for the biggest live-streamed cash for his $455,000 win last September.

Live-streaming spring success

Polk’s superb victory comes on the back of a somewhat disappointing SCOOP run so far this month, but PartyPoker’s $20million, 300+ event Powerfest was an excellent opportunity for the high-stakes legend to bounce back, playing under his gab_tilt99 moniker rather than the PokerStars‘WCGRider’ which is probably better-known to most fans of the game.

It was a long day in the YouTube hot-seat for Polk, but for anyone who has ever watched his streams, filling the void with chat and analysis has never been a problem for him – easily mixing shout-outs to his subscribers with the in-depth thought processes which has seen him gain multi-millionaire status in both the online and live poker worlds.

Heads-up for a $1/4 million+

It took 8 hours and a tense heads-up battle to secure the big payday, ‘Pokerg1rl69’ continually fighting back despite a huge chip deficit when down to the final two. Shortly before the final hand, another streaming star, Andrew Neeme, donated €5 to Polk’s free streaming cause, messaging:

“Does it get boring having such a high alcohol tolerance and being so good at poker?”

A few hands later, the endgame finished, Polk’s As10s all-in re-raise catching his imaginatively-named opponent with an offsuit A7 which ‘she’ had no option but to call with less than 20million chips from the 20 or so out there, and with the board bricking out it was Polk’s day in the sun once again.

$10K giveaway

Polk won’t be the only lucky winner from his spring streams, with one lucky punter set to win $10K as part of the UpswingPoker king’s giveaway offer. With 10,000 of his almost 100,000 followers tuning in for yesterday’s victory, the sweating of the fans was more real than ever.

Polk will draw one lucky name from the hat, destined to scoop 5% of Doug’s net profit from the SCOOP – the $271K Powerfest win suddenly making things extremely interesting. Now $200K up from his $60K of spring buy-ins, it looks certain that someone somewhere will be the recipient of the equivalent to a WSOP Main Event buy-in!

Super High Roller Bowl

Polk, of course, doesn’t limit himself to the big online games anymore, and next week will see him at the $300K buy-in Super High Roller Bowl in Vegas, with a field of elite players and some not-so-elite but rich businessmen (and one woman) ponying up for a chance to take home the $6million first prize, won last year by German wunderkind Fedor Holz.

Will it be Polk’s year this time around? PokerTube will bring you all the best of the action, which starts on May 28th.
