It was another impressive double for Loren Klein as he bagged the Run It Up Reno Main Event yesterday – his second RIU title now matching his back-to-back WSOP bracelets from 2016 and 2017 – and launching his career tournament earnings to almost $1.7million.

The Michigan-raised, Reno-resident pro had entered Day 2 of the RIU flagship tournament as chip leader, but suffered wildly fluctuating fortunes on his way to the final table – finally cementing his place among the title hopefuls when he took down a massive three-way all-in pot when his A♣Q♣ turned a flush against A♠Q♦ and A♦K♥ in one of the biggest hands of the day at the Reno Peppermint Spa Casino.

The Run It Up festival, brainchild of record-setting TwitchTV streamer Jason Somerville, had saved its best until last, and the experience of the two-time WSOP champion was much in evidence as the final nine fought it out for the $150K guaranteed prizepool.

After Epstein and Hoffman had hit the rails courtesy of Klein’s pocket pairs holding up, a brief break was followed by Klein extending his chip lead by cracking the pocket rockets of Timothy Burt, who tweeted…

With the RIU blog describing Klein as ‘applying massive pressure on Andrew Cha and Patrick Tardif and shoving almost every hand’ once they were 3-handed, he also managed to river a pair to dispose of Tardif, leaving only Cha to be dealt with – the latter down to 6BB’s and desperately trying to find a hand or two to double up with against Klein’s constant aggression.

As reported, ‘eventually Cha found K♥Q♣ to make the call. Klein tabled 9♥7♦ but the way he was running, anything was expected. Indeed, he managed to river nine high straight to win the entire tournament.’

Loren Klein therefore became the first double Main Event winner since RIU’s inception.
