Micah Raskin, a poker pro with almost $2million to his name in tournament earnings, stands accused of criminal possession of more than 350 pounds of marijuana – with a street value of over $½million – as well as various other drug and gun offences.
Raskin, a well-known pro from Old Westbury in New York, was arrested on Tuesday during a raid in Nassau County according to newspaper reports, ‘pix11’ news’ Ashley Soley-Cerro describing how ‘more than 358 pounds of marijuana, hash oils containing concentrated doses of THC, drug paraphernalia and packaging materials were seized’ during the swoop.
According to the Office of the District Attorney Nassau County, the marijuana is ‘estimated to be worth more than $500,000’, with the hash oils valued at ‘between $170,000 and $340,000’.
49-year old Raskin, whose most recent cash just 2 weeks ago in the WPT Borgata Winter Open, was arraigned on Wednesday before Judge William Hohauser on various charges, including:
- first-degree criminal possession of marijuana;
- second-degree criminal possession of marijuana;
- fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance;
- third-degree criminal possession of a weapon;
- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
The raid followed a ‘multi-agency investigation’ and also uncovered ‘a loaded shotgun, a taser, paperwork documenting payments and prices for the drug products, a 2016 Land Rover Range Rover, a 2016 Chevrolet Corvette, $140,000 in monetary funds and high-end artwork believed to be worth more than $100,000,’ according to official reports.
Nassau County DA Madeline Singas said of the raid and Raskin’s arrest:
“With this seizure of more than 350 pounds of marijuana and huge quantities of hash oils, this alleged dealer’s time living the high life selling drugs is over.”
The poker pro is claimed to have received shipments of drugs on Long Island which he would then store in his New York home and a Garden City storage facility ‘before selling the drugs to people elsewhere in New York, as well as Baltimore, Washington D.C. and Virginia’.
“Raskin is alleged to have trafficked hundreds of pounds of marijuana across state lines, creating a lucrative business over the years,” said Angel M. Melendez, Special Agent in charge of HSI New York, claiming he was selling the marijuana for $1,400 per pound.
Raskin’s live tournament earnings of $1,947,157 as listed on HendonMob.com include a $320,231 scoop of the $1500 Borgata $500K Guaranteed Deep Stack Tournament in Atlantic City back in August of 2009, as well as six other 6-figure paydays, the most recent being at the 2013 EPT in Berlin when he won the Berlin Cup High Roller for $138,119.
DA Singas told reporters it was ‘the biggest marijuana bust in Nassau County history’ and expects additional charges to be filed against Raskin, with further arrests to follow.
